Family Program
Literacy is Our Legacy
Literacy is the foundation to how we learn and grow. Children learn emotional and social resiliency through literacy. It is the skillset we use to interact with our world. By educating our children, we are empowering them to achieve their full potential in school and throughout all aspects of their life.
What we offer
One on One tutoring: Children would be assessed and matched with a trained volunteer tutor. Parents must always attend with their child when with the tutor. Parent and tutor would discuss a learning plan ( created by the coordinator), around the learning goals.

Leaders in Literacy and Numeracy Ladysmith
High school kids can volunteer at Ladysmith Primary to become a reading or math buddy to elementary school children to earn their volunteer hours for their graduation requirements.
Youth volunteers can volunteer as much as their schedule allows and support students individually or in a group setting.
Bears and Beams
Be Enthusiastic About Reading Success and Be Enthusiastic About Math Success
The Bears & Beams program, first introduced in 1989, matches our volunteers to children in classrooms in School District #68 who are in need of extra help with reading or math. Working under the direction of the classroom teacher, the individual attention provided proves to be rewarding to both the student and volunteer.
iPals
The program is about preparing preschool children for kindergarten. The activities are designed to help parents teach their kids through play. During the program time, parents spend quality time with their children, playing and learning together. This interaction helps improve the children’s literacy skills as well as strengthening the relationship between the parents and their children.
